Over-tourism

I live in a lovely place not far from the sea, spoilt by the overtourism. It seems your novel is going that way too (…)

Does Northgate-on-Sea actually exist?

Dear Joan and Ruth,

Northgaters (according to Avner) is not about overtourism. It’s just a side theme, to be honest. I try hard the characters I write about to be real. As much as I can, at least. Therefore, I felt it was important to spot them surrounded by some menacing situations, and I really think that overtourism and the things that are happening in our dear cities and villages are good examples of the way we all live in nowadays. As a matter of fact, now that I come to think about it, there are some characters (you will get to know Sally Queen in next chapters, hopefully) that are profoundly affected by it, so maybe you are right. Maybe this over-tourism and the noise and all the annoying consequences of over-exploiting our cities is a main thing in the novel, after all. We all have experienced it, sadly, some way or another.

Anyway, we’ll see. But one thing I can tell you. Northgate-on-Sea is very much a real place. You won’t find it in Google Maps, though. And I am afraid it’s all I am ready to say by now about this matter.

Love,

Enrique
